A peaceful inland village where walking meets history on one of Norfolk’s great long-distance trails.
Great Cressingham sits in the heart of west Norfolk’s countryside, with the Peddars Way National Trail passing just to the east. This small, characterful village is centred on its green and historic church, surrounded by farmland, hedgerows, and quiet country lanes. It’s an ideal stopover or base for walking holidays and outdoor adventures, especially for those exploring the inland stretches of the Peddars Way.
The trail links Great Cressingham northwards to Castle Acre and southwards to Little Cressingham, passing through open fields, tree-lined tracks, and gently rolling farmland. Away from the Peddars Way, local lanes and footpaths wind through surrounding villages and past historic farms, offering easy circular walks. With little through-traffic, the area is as peaceful as it is scenic.
The Peddars Way passes just west of Great Cressingham, heading north to Castle Acre and south to Little Cressingham and Knettishall Heath. Local footpaths connect the village to neighbouring settlements, creating options for short loops and linking walks.
