Devon, in the heart of South West England, is one of the UK’s most diverse destinations for walking holidays and outdoor adventures. Bordered by Cornwall, Somerset, and Dorset, it offers two spectacular coastlines and two wild upland National Parks — Dartmoor and Exmoor.
Here you can stride across granite tors, follow rivers through wooded valleys, and enjoy endless views along the South West Coast Path, which skirts both the north and south coasts. Inland, the Two Moors Way links Dartmoor to Exmoor, while shorter trails like the Tarka Trail and East Devon Way reveal Devon’s quieter countryside.
Whether it’s clifftop hikes, moorland adventures, or harbour strolls, Devon has a trail for every kind of walker.
South West Coast Path (Devon Sections)
The Coast Path runs for around 120 miles along Devon’s north and south coasts, passing dramatic cliffs, estuaries, sandy beaches, and fishing villages. Highlights include the Hartland coast, the Exmouth cliffs, and the English Riviera.
Two Moors Way
A 102-mile inland route linking Dartmoor and Exmoor. Cross rolling farmland, heather moorland, and deep valleys between Ivybridge and Lynmouth.
Tarka Trail
Inspired by Tarka the Otter, this 180-mile figure-of-eight trail includes long flat sections on old railway lines — ideal for gentle walking or cycling around Barnstaple and Bideford.
East Devon Way
A 40-mile trail through the East Devon National Landscape, from Exmouth to Lyme Regis. Expect wooded valleys, open heathland, and links with the Jurassic Coast.
Devon’s coast and moors are dotted with inviting destinations for walkers. The twin villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, perched on the Exmoor cliffs, are iconic bases for hiking, combining seaside scenery with access to inland trails.
