Tucked between the Norfolk Broads and the coast, Acle is a quiet gateway to the countryside. With its old market town character, riverside location, and good transport links, it makes a convenient and peaceful stop along the Weavers’ Way.
The village sits near the River Bure and is often overlooked in favour of the Broads' bigger boating hubs — but that’s exactly what gives it charm. Acle’s name means “oak lea” (a clearing in an oak forest), and it retains that sense of leafy stillness. You’ll find a few historic buildings, a medieval church, and a handful of cosy pubs. The trail leads westward out of town through farmland and quiet tracks toward the heart of Broadland.
